All Uhbiks do surround processing, up to 8 channels, including typical formats like quadraphonic, 5.1 and 7.1. The idea therein is, the surround modes work without any complicated user interface clutter and without need for dedicated versions (apart from some hosts that require dedicated stereo versions, that is). So while the handling of Uhbiks is strictly stereo, you gain the advantage of fully surroundish sound and control, way superior to the "multi mono" workarounds that some hosts offer. Options are included to keep Lfe or Center/Lfe unprocessed - so you're flexible all along.

Right-click (or ctrl-click on Mac) on any Uhbik's display:

  • auto/surround: This is the default mode. It checks the number of output channels and works as 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 5.0, 5.1, 7.0, 7.1 accordingly. In this mode, "no lfe" and "dry c + lfe" are used to leave center and Lfe unprocessed. The assumed channel order is Left, Right, Center, Lfe, Left surround, Right surround, Left rear, Right rear.

Note: The channel order in the plugin specification may vary from your host's meters, but you can check channel activity in Uhbik's vu-meters!

  • multichannel: In multichannel mode all channels are treated evenly. The first channel is "the furthest left" while the last channel is "the furthest right". So, if 4 channels are connected, the assumed channel order is Left rear, Left, Right, Right rear.

  • stereo a+b: In these modes all channels are let through dry except for the pair chosen. Use this if you only want to process a certain pair of channels.

  • mono: Processes the first channel (typically Left) as mono and outputs it to as many channels as are connected.

  • stereo-surround: Right and Left channel are first copied in pairs to channels 3-8, then processed according to auto/surround mode.

When used on multichannel tracks, modulation plug-ins such as Flanger and Phaser work with adjustable phase offset between channels. You can create dramatic effects that circle around your listener's head. The stereo pan pots in the multitap delay span not just left and right, but also center and surround channels.
